Kids Dental Care

Early dental care and awareness will help maintain your child’s oral health for life. We recommend that you bring your child for the first dental visit around the age of 1. Our children’s dental care consists of detection of early decay and risk of decay in future, diet counseling, advice on proper oral care, prevention of injuries to teeth, elimination of unwanted habits that pose a risk to the oral health of the child, preventive treatments, correction of misaligned teeth and restorative treatments of decayed or injured teeth. Preventive Treatments

• Flouride applications: Application of flouride varnishes at regular intervals will help in prevention of decay of teeth in children. These varnishes can be applied to milk teeth and permanent teeth as well.
• Pit and Fissure sealants: These are applied on the chewing surfaces of milk teeth to seal small pits and deep fissures and thus prevent accumulation of debris in these pits and fissures thereby preventing decay in future.

Orthodontic Treatment

• Myofunctional appliances These appliances are given to children in order to eliminate habits such as mouth breathing, tongue thrusting, lip biting and thumb sucking. They may be removable or fixed appliances.
• Space maintainers Space maintainers are needed in cases where the tooth falls out early. The spaces created by such teeth need to be maintained in order to allow the eruption of the underlying teeth in the correct position.
• Braces Fixed or removable braces are given to the children depending on the need. Braces help in the correction of misaligned teeth.

Restorative Treatments

• Superficial restorationsIf the cavity or trauma to the teeth has not extended to the soft tissue of the tooth, it is then restored with certain tooth coloured restorative material.
• Painless Root canal treatmentRoot canal treatment in milk teeth is similar to that done in permanent teeth. When decay enters the soft tissue of the teeth, a root canal treatment is done. The procedure involves removing the soft tissue (the soft tissue contains the blood and nerve supply of the tooth) entirely, then cleaning and drying the cavity. Finally, the cavity is sealed with a compatible material and the tooth is covered with a stainless steel crown. The procedure is done under local anaesthesia.
